Fees & Insurance
I’m a private pay therapist. I do not accept insurance. The fee for a therapy session is $200 and can be paid by credit card/debit card/HSA/FSA card.
I can provide a monthly superbill which some insurances reimburse for as out-of-network coverage. If you're thinking about that route, talk with your insurance directly for more information. See FAQs below for what to ask them.

FAQ

Here are some starting questions to ask your insurance company about your out-of-network benefits:
Do I have out-of-network benefits for outpatient mental health?
Can I use my benefits to see Karyn Cave? Her office address is 7400 Lyndale Ave S Minneapolis, MN 55423 #160
How much does my plan reimburse for out-of-network benefits?
Does my plan limit how many sessions per calendar year I can have?
How do I submit claims for reimbursement?

Most people come to therapy once every or every other week. Ultimately, therapy is a collaborative process, and the pacing can be adjusted as we move forward on your path to wellness.

It's important to me that therapy is what you need to heal, not what insurance companies require. Insurance companies have rules around how I do therapy that might not be best for you. Things like requiring diagnosis (that were made by and for white men), dictating the length and frequency of sessions, and reduced privacy. By not including the insurance company, we can design a therapy experience that is best for you and your healing journey.

I work with all people, both white people and people of color. I have specialized training and lived experience that is useful for working with people of color.
No Surprises: Good Faith Estimate Notice
This notice is required to be present on healthcare websites. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services. You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. You will receive a good faith estimate before you receive services with Karyn Cave MSW, LICSW. This document will outline our fees for service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 1-800-985-3059.
